Flat River Farms Blog
In the recent weeks we've had several phone calls here asking questions about the soaps. The two I've heard most often lately are do we use our 'homegrown' lard for the soaps, and do we make a laundry soap?
We do use our own brand of lard from the hogs we've raised here to make the soaps. Unfortunately, the neighbors didn't like the hogs anymore and we're having to stop raising them, which will in turn force us to use 'purchased' lard. The last of the soap we have using our lard is on the shelves now in our goats milk soaps and is almost sold out.
As for making a laundry soap, we do make a bar soap that is large and suitable for handwashables. To date we have not taken the time to 'grate' the soap down into a washing powder or soda, specifically for adding to machines. This is something we have discussed and have no plans to do. It would simply be too time consuming and would cost you the end user more in the long run. The soap is however suitable for grating if you have the patience and the want too.
Soon we will be converting the shopping/sales part of our site over to a new format with updated photos and the new list of products. You will see some changes in our product lines as we lean towards oils, herbals, tinctures and mastrations of various herbs.
We do expect to have several varieties of Daylily available on a limited basis this year, as well as a few peices of handcrafted jewelry, various sewing & quilting or knitting projects, and perhaps a few hand braided rugs or woodcrafts.
As far as letters go, we've had some interesting inquiries for produce in cities close by, and we'll post produce to our mailing list as it becomes available. If you want to be on that list, drop us an email. We'll keep you notified of availability, delivery and pickup schedules in the local area.
We look forward to 'growing' season this year and hope to have much more in store to share this year.
As always...
